Our Hutchinson facility sits at 4601 N Plum St — the same road as the HutchCC main campus at 1300 N Plum. It’s a five-minute drive north, easy to reach whether you’re coming from Elland Hall, the Dillon Nature Center area, or a rental house off Plum. If you’re a Blue Dragon, this is the closest climate-controlled storage to your dorm.
Every unit here is climate-controlled — not just some. That matters more than students realize for stuff like textbooks, laptops, mini-fridges and TVs that would otherwise sit in a hot garage over a Kansas summer. Sizes range from a locker-sized 5×10 (great for one person’s dorm) up to a 10×30 that fits a full apartment.
Roommate splits — the smart move
A 10×10 unit shared by two roommates costs each of you half the monthly rent and stores a solid one-bedroom worth of stuff. Two roommates in a 10×15 works even better — there’s room for two beds, dressers, seasonal boxes, kitchen gear, and everything you don’t want to haul back to Wichita or Kansas City. Just make sure everyone with access is listed on the rental agreement.
Between-semester timing
The busiest weeks for HutchCC storage rentals are the last two weeks of the spring semester and the first two of fall. Reserve online at least a week ahead if you’re moving out May 10–20 or moving back in August 15–25 — that’s when everyone else does it too. Same-day move-in is possible if a unit’s open, but reservation is the safer bet.
Common HutchCC storage questions
What size unit does one student need for the summer?
A 5×10 (about the size of a walk-in closet) holds one dorm room comfortably — bed frame, dresser, mini-fridge, TV, boxes of clothes and books. Bump up to a 10×10 if you’re bringing a lot more or want breathing room.
Can I split a unit with a roommate?
Yes. Add anyone with access to the rental agreement at move-in. A 10×10 for two people or a 10×15 for three or four is typical for HutchCC roommate groups.
Do I need to be there in person to rent?
No — you can reserve, sign the agreement, and pay online. Come by with your ID during office hours to pick up the gate code, or arrange after-hours pickup by phone.
Is my stuff insured while it’s in the unit?
We recommend insurance for anything valuable. Many parents’ homeowners policies extend coverage to students’ off-site storage — check with your family’s policy. If not, our tenant protection plans start at a few dollars per month.
